Ghana's Brandon Thomas-Asante set up Ellis Simms as Coventry City swept aside Newcastle United 4-1 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Ghanaian forward Brandon Thomas-Asante made his mark in a statement Premier League night, creating a key goal as Coventry City beat Newcastle United 4-1 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry flew out of the blocks. Jack Rudoni stepped up from the penalty spot in the sixth minute to put the hosts ahead, and Sidiki Cherif doubled the lead shortly after the interval. Newcastle pulled one back in the 70th minute through Sven Botman, and for a moment the visitors threatened a fightback.
Coventry shut that down. In the 81st minute Thomas-Asante set up Ellis Simms for the third goal, restoring the two-goal cushion and calming the stadium. Five minutes later, Stephen Mfuni added a fourth, with Jay Dasilva providing the assist, to seal a memorable home win.
The assist was Thomas-Asante's first league contribution of the season. He now has one assist in six Premier League appearances, and he will hope this is the start of more to come.
Coventry will look to build on the result when they face Tottenham in the Premier League on October 18.
