Ghana captain Seidatu Wahab says the Black Maidens are united, sharp and fearless as they open their U-17 Women's World Cup bid against Norway.
Ghana's Black Maidens are heading into their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup opener with belief running through the camp, and captain Seidatu Wahab is making sure everyone knows it. Africa's representatives face Norway on Sunday, and their skipper says the squad is locked in.
"Our spirit is very high," Wahab said, pointing to the backing the players have received from their coaches and the wider team. Her message was simple: the group feels ready for the stage.
Preparation has played a big part in that confidence. Wahab says the warm-up fixtures exposed the team's weak points and gave them time to fix them before the real test begins. "The matches have really helped us. We have known our difficulties and we have corrected them," she explained.
Norway will offer a style of opposition Ghana have not met before, but the captain sees that as a lesson rather than a worry. Facing unfamiliar European sides, she says, showed the players exactly why they earned their place at the tournament.
For Wahab, discipline and togetherness will carry the Black Maidens through. She stressed that the players must follow their coaches' instructions and move as one unit as they chase a historic start in the competition.
