Toto Wolff shut down favouritism claims over Antonelli and Russell, telling critics to stick to Teletubbies as Mercedes head to Singapore.
Toto Wolff is done entertaining the conspiracy theories. Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the Mercedes team principal flatly rejected suggestions that he has tilted the scales toward Kimi Antonelli at the expense of George Russell, saying anyone pushing that narrative would be better off watching "Teletubbies or Mickey Mouse" than Formula One.
The numbers explain why the debate is so loud. Antonelli arrives in Singapore 84 points clear of Russell in the drivers' championship, putting a first world title within touching distance for the 20-year-old Italian. Only in his second F1 season, he has delivered a composed, confident campaign that has made him the man to catch.
Russell's year has been a different story. The Briton has been hit by bad luck and reliability problems that have chipped away at his title bid, fuelling the argument among some fans that something more deliberate is at play inside the team. Wolff insists it is not, and he has defended Mercedes' handling of both drivers.
On track, Max Verstappen has set the tone for the weekend by taking pole in sprint qualifying in Singapore. With Antonelli eyeing the crown and Russell fighting to keep his season alive, Mercedes will be under the spotlight on and off the circuit.
