According to medical examiner, NCAA star Cameron Burrell died by suicide

The unexpected death of Cameron Burrell, a former champion sprinter at University of Houston and the son of Olympic gold medal-winning parents, has been ruled a suicide.

According to the medical examiner’s report, Cameron’s death occurred in a Houston parking garage.

Leroy Burrell, who serves as the Cougars’ head track coach, said earlier in the week that his family is “profoundly grief stricken.”

Burrell came from an impactful track and field family. His father was the former world record holder in the 100 meters and his mother, Michelle Finn-Burrell, won a sprint relay gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Spain. His aunt, Dawn Burrell, participated in the long jump at the 2000 Olympics in Australia. His godfather, Carl Lewis, won nine gold medals and is one of the most well-known athletes in history.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Rest in Peace.
