On Tuesday’s game, MotorCade finished a career-high 34 points, 8 boards, 8 assists, four blocked shots, and two steals in 40 minutes of game time during the 110-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Cade shot 14-of-26 from field and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.
The number 1 pick joins legendary Michael Jordan as the two rookies in NBA history to record 30 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four blocks in a single game. Cunningham also made franchise history as the sixth Piston rookie to score 30 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Cunningham fully showcased what he’s capable of, being a swiss-army knife that can carry the offensive and defensive load of the team. The 20-year old felt good running the team’s offense and has been making strides as the focal facilitator due to his off-the-charts basketball IQ.
“I think more than anything, it has been about making my mind up about what I’m trying to do before the play presents itself. Now I’m just reading the play as it comes, being more disciplined about my reads and I think we’re getting better outcomes. My teammates, when they are aggressive and everybody is getting their shot off, we’re a lot tougher to guard.” Said Cunningham
Despite missing a considerable chunk of the early season due to injury, Cunningham makes every minute count with his contributions on the court for the Pistons. Now, he’s up for debate and conversation to be a front-runner for Rookie of the Year.
