Daniel Dubois sues boxing promoter Don King over unpaid purse

Another boxer has filed a lawsuit against Don King, as Daniel Dubois is accusing the famous promoter of not having paid him for his bout against Trevor Bryan on June 11.

The 90-year-old had previously been sued by well-known boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. Dubois defeated Bryan to win the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight belt this summer.

King organised the event to take place in a small casino venue in Miami, Florida. Meanwhile, Dubois is accusing him of allegedly breaching the contract signed ahead of the fight.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren and King failed to reach an agreement over the fight and it went to purse bids. King came out victorious with a bid of 3.1 million dollars, with Warren bidding one million euros less than his counterpart.

According to talkSPORT, Dubois was due 45 percent of the winning bid, which is 1.4m dollars and he is suing for between 463,274 dollars and 938,274 dollars.

Meanwhile, Dubois’ circles are not sure whether King has paid some extra fees which were due.

A fee of 42,066.01 dollars of Dubois’ purse was due to be paid to the WBA for sanctioning fees.

Meanwhile, 420,660.12 dollars was due to be paid in tax as due to the event taking place in the US and another 1,200 dollars was also due to be paid as a WBA manager’s licence fee to Dubois’ manager Martin Bowers.
