Letsile Tebogo from Bostwana produced a shock at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday, winning gold in the 200m final.

The 21-year-old claimed the 200m gold medal, denying Noah Lylesa a sprint double at the competition.

Tebogo also finished with an African record of 19.46 seconds.

American Kenneth Bednarek came second, crossing the line in 19.62 seconds.

Lyles, who became the world’s fastest man by five-thousandths of a second in the 100m final on Sunday night, matched his Tokyo bronze in 19.70 seconds.

It emerged after the race that Lyles had tested positive for COVID-19 and the 27-year-old had to be helped off the track in a wheelchair.

Letsile Tebogo was asked after winning the men’s 200m final if he aspires to world records and being the face of track and field.

“I can’t be the face of athletics because I’m not an arrogant or a loud person like Noah (Lyles)” he replied.
