Dare Ogunbowale, a former Wisconsin running back, clinched a thrilling victory for the Houston Texans with a game-winning touchdown in their 24-20 defeat of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
When Dare Ogunbowale broke free in the flat on the final play for the Texans’ offense, a player who knows a thing or two about clutch moments shouted,
“Throw it to him!”
Obviously, C.J. Stroud couldn’t hear Arike Ogunbowale’s voice coming from her spot in the lower level of NRG Stadium, but the Texans quarterback followed the advice of the four-time WNBA All-Star anyway. As he rolled to his right on second-and-goal from the Jaguars’ 1 with 22 seconds remaining, Stroud hit Arike’s brother in stride at the goal line for the game-winning score in the Texans’ 24-20 victory Sunday.
When the Texans’ first 3-1 start since 2016 was sealed, Dare ran to the seats behind the home bench to celebrate with his sister, who had just completed her WNBA season in which she
averaged 22.2 points per game for the Dallas Wings.
“It’s special any time I get to see her up there,” Dare said. “I get to go to her games, she gets to go to my games. We’re just living our childhood dream. For her to be up there while I was able to make some plays, it was special.”
