Eddie Nketiah scored a 97th goal as Crystal Palace ended Liverpool’s 100% start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The Eagles triumphed over the Reds on penalties in the Community Shield to open the campaign and were in front when Senegal winger, Ismaila Sarr, tapped in from close range after nine minutes for his fifth goal in eight appearances against the reigning league champions.
Palace remained in the lead until the 87th minute when substitute Frederico Chiesa scrambled the ball in from close range. The goal was allowed to stand after a VAR review for Mohamed Salah committing a handball offense in the build up.
With six additional minutes given, Oliver Glasner’s men got the winner in the 97th minute as substitute and former Arsenal forward Nketiah, of Ghanaian heritage, was well positioned to put the ball into the back of the net.
The victory lifted Palace up to second on the table, three points behind Liverpool, and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 18 games.
