The stadium was thrown into frenzy when Partey got a second goal for Atletico Madrid, who are fighting to secure a Champions League spot, just two minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes.
The 20-yard strike from the midfielder flew past the goalkeeper, who stretched out his hand despairingly to save it, to give Atletico a 2-1 lead over Valencia, heading into the second half.
The goal was Partey’s second in La Liga and third overall this season, having scored in the Champions League as well, and the visitors were hopeful of a win.
The winning dream of Atletico was cancelled out by Geoffrey Kondogbia who found the back of the net of their opponents on the 59th minute during the second half of the game.
Following Friday’s 2-2 draw with Valencia in La Liga, the Ghana international, Thomas Partey has expressed his optimism that Atlético Madrid will find their rhythm.
