Kobe Bryant been named the recipient of the Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award.
The 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award will be given to the NBA legend for his work in ‘philanthropy, community building and inspiration’
TThe posthumous honor will be presented on July 18 during the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards that will stream on Emmys.com.
Bryant was “a legendary fixture on Southern California television screens for over 20 years,” as the Television Academy writes, and also an author, producer, passionate advocate for causes including homelessness, ambassador for women’s basketball and youth advocate.
He was one of nine people who died in January this year when the helicopter they were in crashed on a hillside in Calabasas, California. Among the victims was Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
According to an autopsy report, Bryant and the eight on the helicopter did not have alcohol or drugs in his system, and all nine sustained immediately fatal injuries when their helicopter slammed into a hillside outside Los Angeles.
