Liverpool officially secured its first Premier League title in 30 years on Thursday following Chelsea’s 2-1 triumph over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Thursday’s title was the first since the 1989-90 season and brings the club’s domestic title total to 19, just one behind Manchester United.
While Liverpool’s victory was enjoyed by fans around the world, it’s likely few in the United States were as delighted with the title as LeBron James. James bought a 2% stake in the club back in 2011. On Thursday, he was officially the partial owner of a champion.
The Basketball star, who has shares in the Merseyside club, tweeted his delight as Jurgen Klopp’s side were confirmed as champions.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET’S GO @LFC #YNWA’
Lebron James also shared an image on his Instagram story and retweeted several posts from the club’s official Twitter account during the celebrations.
Supporters also gathered outside Anfield as the 30-year wait finally came to an end.
James’ association with the Reds dates back to 2011 when he bought a two per cent share for around £5.28million and, thanks to the club’s recent success, that value has now skyrocketed to a reported £26million.
