Patriots place Mohamed Sanu on PUP list

The New England Patriots have placed wide receiver Mohamed Sanu on their physically unable to perform (PUP) list, ESPN’s Field Yates reports.

Sanu underwent ankle surgery in early March, after dealing with an injury throughout the 2019 season. He has been progressing very well throughout his rehab process, but he apparently is not 100% healthy.

The reasoning for King being placed on PUP is unknown, however, he did miss all of last season due to injury.

Sanu joins the Patriots last season from the Falcons. However, he had a disappointing season, recording just 26 catches for 207 yards and one touchdown in nine games. Furthermore, Sanu averaged a career-low 8.0 yards per reception with the Patriots in 2019.

Nevertheless, as for the Patriots, they’ll be entering the 2020 season without quarterback Tom Brady on the roster. Losing Brady will certainly hurt their Super Bowl title aspirations; however, it’ll also motivate the team that they can win without him.

Sanu missed just one game but was ineffective down the stretch, catching a total of 12 passes on 24 targets for 99 yards and no touchdowns over New England’s final five regular-season contests and one on five targets for 11 yards in its playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans.

On the PUP list, Sanu cannot practice until they are medically cleared to do so, at which point he can be taken off the list.

Meaning, if a player on the PUP list is not removed from the list before the regular season begins, he will have to miss the first six weeks of the season before being eligible to come off the list.
