Wide receiver Mohamed Sanu is set to be released by the New England Patriots ahead of the season opener.
The 31-year-old has battled an ankle injury since being acquired from the Falcons in exchange for a second-round pick in October 2019.
Mo’s contract is said to have a $6.5 million earning in the final year, but that may no longer be possible.
Having undergone surgery some months ago, the former Bengals star said he was looking to put his injury owes behind him.
“Last year was last year. I’m just leaving it over there,” Sanu told reporters back in August.
“I was out there, so I was doing what I was supposed to do: play. I’m not focused on that anymore. I’m focused on this year,” he added.
However, just under a year after joining the Patriots, his stay looks to be cut short, according to reports.
CBS Sports reports that the side will rely heavily on N’Keal Harry and Julian Edelman at the receiver position when they offload Sanu.
