Alphonso Davies damages ankle ligaments, set to miss 6-8 weeks

Alphonso Davies named Bundesliga Rookie of the year

Bayern Munich have been hit with an injury blow after Alphonso Davies was forced off in the opening minutes of their Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

The Canadian international, who was such a huge part of Bayern Munich’s trophy-hounding 2019-20 season, had lost playing time to Theo Hernandez in the last few weeks.

He was back in the Starting XI on Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt but left after just three minutes of Bayern’s 5-0 blowout win.

Davies appeared to roll his right ankle while running without the ball, and without being tackled by an opposition player.

The 19-year-old left-back was replaced by Lucas Hernandez in the third minute, and was helped from the pitch by two members of Bayern’s backroom staff.

“He has a ligament injury on his right ankle. “He’s twisted and tore a ligament, a ligament was partially torn off. We expect him to be out for six to eight weeks,” Bayern boss Hansi Flick revealed the severity of the injury, with Davies set to take in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
