Africa rising: Egypt’s Mo Salah beats Ronaldo, catches up on Messi in home league goals

Mohamed Salah

Egyptian talisman and Liverpool’s forward, Mohamed Salah is fast catching up on 2019 Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi on home goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues since August 2017.

With a brace from the Egypt international in Liverpool’s 4 – 0 win against Southampton at Anfield on Saturday, Salah now has 44 home league goals.

This takes Salah two goals ahead of Portugal’s captain and Juventus forward, Christiana Ronaldo, who has scored 42 home goals.

Salah’s 44 goals makes him one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe’s top five leagues, and seven goals away from matching the record of Messi.

Meanwhile, in this season, Messi is in a similar race in catching up with Salah who has scored 12 home goals in 13 games, with Messi scoring 11 goals in 11 matches.
