2025 CAF Awards: Ajibade and Okoronkwo Headline Women’s Player of the Year Nominees

Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

The Nigerian duo feature among the 10 nominees announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday.

Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament as Nigeria claimed a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in July. The Paris Saint-Germain forward was voted Player of the Match in three of Nigeria’s six games at the tournament in Morocco.

Okoronkwo, meanwhile, scored two goals and provided six assists in the competition, including a goal and an assist in the final, where she was named Player of the Match.

The Super Falcons duo are shortlisted alongside Zambia’s Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji, Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga, Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Ghizlane Chebbak, Portia Boakye of Ghana, and Senegal’s Mame Diop.
