Ghana's MTN FA Cup gets its grassroots spotlight as 86 lower-league sides are sorted into 10 regional pools ahead of the preliminary-round draw.
Ghana's lower-league football is about to take center stage. Ahead of Tuesday's draw, 86 Division One and Division Two clubs have been placed into 10 regional pools for the Preliminary Round of the 2026/27 MTN FA Cup, setting the stage for a proper grassroots showdown.
The zoning is designed to cut down on long, costly journeys and to produce tighter, more competitive ties. For clubs who often stretch every cedi just to get through a season, keeping matches closer to home is a big deal.
The 18 Ghana Premier League sides will sit this stage out and join the action in the Round of 64. That leaves the preliminary round as a stage for the country's lesser-known teams to make a name for themselves and chase a shot at the top flight's big guns.
Group 1 is the biggest pool, with 13 clubs including Victory Club Warriors, Techiman Eleven Wonders, Wamanafo Mighty Royals, Dormaa Unity, Berekum Kaja Casablanca and Katakyie Dromah United. Group 2 has 10 teams headlined by Real Tamale United, Wa Power, Tamale City and Northern City.
Group 3 pairs Berekum City, Bolga Soccer Masters, Bull FC Zuarungu and Navrongo Liberty, while Group 4 features Kalibi SC, Sombo Freedom Stars, WA Sorenate FC and Hilla Stars. Group 5 is stacked with Nations FC, King Faisal, Ebony, Adom FC and Citi Football Academy, among others. Group 6 includes Ebusua Dwarfs, New Edubiase FC and Fettehman United, with more clubs rounding out the remaining pools. Once the draw is made, the road to the Round of 64 begins.
