Ghana's former NSA boss is working with police, his lawyer says, as he fights allegations tied to 2026 World Cup visas.
Ghana's sports administration is in the spotlight again. Former National Sports Authority Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah is fighting allegations of visa fraud linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbor, says the claims do not hold up.
Avenorgbor insists his client did not collect money from anyone to help them secure visas for the tournament. He says Ampofo Ankrah has had no dealings with any person for the purpose of taking payments, and he rejected suggestions to the contrary.
The lawyer also says the two of them have been in regular contact with police investigators for about four weeks. He described the process as extensive and said the cooperation has given detectives a much clearer picture of what happened. He added that he is confident the investigation will clear up the allegations.
The controversy has already had consequences. President John Dramani Mahama asked Ampofo Ankrah to step aside while investigations into the alleged visa scandal continue. The allegations remain unproven, and the police process is still ongoing.
With the World Cup approaching and Ghanaian fans eager to travel, the outcome of this probe will be watched closely across the country's football community.
