In this season's edition, Italian Atalanta won the title by defeating German Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final. The 34-year-old Gabonese player became the competition's all-time top scorer by scoring 34 goals, surpassing Colombian Radamel Falcao's record of 30 goals.
The former striker, who played for Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Arsenal in England, and Barcelona in Spain, arrived in Marseille last summer from Chelsea in England. He played a major role in his team's journey in the continental competition this season, but the adventure ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Atalanta.
