Ghana's U-17 stars are the only team with a win at the WAFU B tournament, and victory over Benin would send them into the semi-finals.
Ghana's Black Starlets are carrying early momentum into the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso, and assistant coach Hamza Mohammed says the squad's confidence is soaring as a huge Group A date with Benin approaches.
The Starlets opened their campaign in Ouagadougou with a 1-0 win over Togo, a result that makes them the only side with a victory so far in the tournament. For a young group chasing a semi-final berth, that is the kind of start every coach wants.
Mohammed admits the win has lifted spirits in camp, but he is also clear that leading the pack brings pressure. "Winning the first game has really boosted our confidence. So far we are the only side with a win in the tournament and that comes with its own demands," he said.
The stakes are simple on Tuesday: beat Benin and Ghana book a place in the last four. The technical team will be hoping the belief from the opening win, plus sharper work in key areas of the game, will be enough to get the job done.
A second win would not only secure qualification but also hand the Starlets serious momentum as they push deeper into the competition in Burkina Faso.
