Ghana's U-17 side drilled their shooting boots in training as a win over Benin would book a semi-final spot at the WAFU Zone B Championship.
Ghana's Black Starlets have made clinical finishing their top priority as they chase a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship. A win over Benin in Tuesday's Group A clash would seal qualification for the last four.
Assistant coach Hamza Mohammed admitted the team left too much on the table in their opener against Togo. The Starlets carved out plenty of openings but found the net only once, enough for a 1-0 victory but a long way from a comfortable one.
"We created so many chances against Togo but scored only one. We have worked on that and In Sha Allah we'll improve against Benin," Mohammed said, making clear that the staff have addressed the issue on the training ground.
The opening win has lifted morale in the camp, and the young Ghanaians arrive in good spirits. Still, the technical team will want to see sharper decision-making and more ruthless attacking in front of goal, because wasted chances can prove costly in a tight group.
Benin now stand between the Starlets and a guaranteed semi-final berth. If the lessons from training translate into goals on Tuesday, Ghana could book their place in the knockout rounds with a statement performance.
