Ghana's young Black Starlets opened the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan with a commanding 4-1 win over Uzbekistan.
Ghana's U-15 boys have announced themselves in Azerbaijan. The Ghanaian side opened their FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival campaign on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Uzbekistan in Group W, taking all three points from their first match.
Abdul Aziz Issah and Jerry Owusu each scored twice. Ghana controlled the game from the start, mixing attacking intent with composure and flair against their Asian opponents. Issah put them ahead and added a second to build a firm lead, and Owusu then struck twice to finish the job and leave Uzbekistan with little chance of a comeback.
Uzbekistan did grab a late consolation goal, but it came too late to change the outcome and Ghana kept their winning start intact.
The result puts Ghana in a strong position in a group that also includes Myanmar, Guam, Bahamas and Kazakhstan. Ghana face Myanmar and Guam on Sunday, then close out the group phase against Bahamas and Kazakhstan on Monday.
The tournament is part of FIFA's Talent Development Scheme, which aims to give young talents from every corner of the world a chance to show what they can do on a global stage. On this evidence, Ghana's youngsters are making the most of it.
