The 21-year-old Ghanaian ran the show from deep as New York stunned Inter Miami 2-0 to boost their playoff push.
Ghanaian talent Mohammed Sofo was at the heart of one of the MLS's big upsets, as the New York Red Bulls finally got the better of defending champions Inter Miami with a 2-0 win at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey.
The 21-year-old forward was handed a deeper midfield role by manager Michael Bradley, and he handled it brilliantly. Sofo kicked off the move that led to the opening goal, which ended up in the net via an own goal from Inter Miami's Casemiro. From there, the Red Bulls held firm and sealed the points, giving their playoff hopes a major lift.
Afterward, Sofo said this is exactly the kind of match players dream of. He praised the atmosphere and said that winning in front of the home fans meant a great deal. With the season at a crucial stage, he stressed how much the three points matter, calling it a very big result for the club.
He also said the display showed the standard the team can reach, and he hopes they keep it up. Although he now plays further back than he once did, Sofo says he knows his responsibilities on the pitch, a sign of maturity from a young Ghanaian who keeps growing in MLS.
