Samuel Gidi bagged his first FC Cincinnati goal and Ronald Donkor set one up for the Red Bulls, but neither Ghanaian saw his side win.
Ghana's stars kept flying the flag in Major League Soccer on Wednesday night. Samuel Gidi scored his first goal for FC Cincinnati and Ronald Donkor provided an assist for New York Red Bulls. Sadly for both men, the midweek action ended without victories for their clubs.
Gidi's moment came in a thrilling 2-2 draw between Cincinnati and Inter Miami at Nu Stadium. The first half finished goalless, and Luis Suárez put the hosts ahead in the 61st minute. Cincinnati stayed in the fight and Kenji Mboma Dem levelled in the 80th minute.
Six minutes later, the Ghanaian defender struck to put the visitors in front. His 86th-minute finish was his first goal in a Cincinnati shirt, and it looked set to earn his team a crucial three points.
Inter Miami had other ideas. Riquelme Fillipi scored in the 90th minute to snatch a point, and Cincinnati had to settle for a draw after being so close to a win. It was a cruel way to lose two points, but Gidi's goal is still a big personal milestone.
Donkor also made his mark for the Red Bulls with an assist, though his side could not turn it into a win. Between them, the two Ghanaians showed that talent from the Black Stars pool can make an impact in one of the world's most competitive leagues.
