Greater Accra edged Western Region 5-4 on penalties in Prampram to win their first-ever KGL Foundation U17 Colts title.
Ghana's youth football scene has a new champion. Greater Accra Region have won the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship for the first time, beating Western Region 5-4 on penalties after a goalless final at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Neither side could break the deadlock in regulation time, so the trophy came down to a shootout. Greater Accra held their nerve from the spot and Western Region could not match them, which capped an eight-day tournament. Desmond Asare was named Most Valuable Player of the final.
It was another painful afternoon for Western Region. They have now reached the final in three straight editions, winning in 2024 before losing to Ashanti Region in 2025 and now to Greater Accra. Back-to-back final defeats will sting for a side that has been consistently close to the top.
In the third-place match, Prempeh Elite Academy beat Brong Ahafo 3-0 to take bronze. Thomas Asante scored twice either side of a goal from Dennis Duah for the Kumasi-based academy.
Greater Accra now join a list of champions that includes MAL FC (2021), Great Corinthians (2022), Ashanti Region (2023) and Western Region (2024). For a group of young Ghanaian players, this is a first title and a place in the competition's history.
