Greater Accra edged Western Region 5-4 on penalties in Prampram to lift their maiden KGL Inter-Regional U17 Colts title.
Ghana's youth football pipeline has a new champion. Greater Accra Region won the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship for the first time, beating Western Region 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Sunday.
The final was a tense, goalless affair. Neither side could break through in regulation time, so the trophy went to spot-kicks. Greater Accra held their nerve under pressure and converted enough penalties to end the eight-day tournament in celebration. Desmond Asare, a key figure in the campaign, was named Most Valuable Player of the final.
For Western Region, it was another painful night. They have reached the final in each of the last three editions since 2024. They lifted the trophy in 2024, lost to Ashanti Region the following year, and have now fallen again, this time from the penalty spot.
There was also success for Prempeh Elite Academy, who finished third with a 3-0 win over Brong Ahafo.
Tournaments like this give Ghana's young talents a competitive stage and a route into the wider football system. Greater Accra now join the list of KGL U17 champions, and their first title may be just the start.
