Hearts of Oak edge Port City 1-0 as Ennin admits first-half struggles

Frank Duku's strike sinks newly-promoted Port City as Christopher Ennin vows to fix the mistakes after a tough Ghana Premier League outing.

Ghana Premier League newcomers Port City FC felt the heat of a heavyweight clash on Sunday, falling 1-0 to Hearts of Oak at the University of Ghana Stadium. Head coach Christopher Ennin didn't hide from the truth afterwards: his side was second-best early on.

Port City arrived with momentum after their previous win over Bechem United, and they wanted to keep that run going against the Phobians. Hearts had other plans. Frank Duku got the decisive goal, and it was enough to send all three points back to the Accra giants.

Speaking after the match, Ennin said the first half was a struggle for his players but felt they responded after the break and played with more control. He accepted that football can go either way, and that this time it went against his team. His message was that the group must go back to the training ground, study what went wrong and work on those mistakes.

Despite the setback, the promoted side's debut campaign remains in good shape. Port City are still among the top four in the table, a strong position for a team still finding its feet at this level. The next test is to show that Sunday was a bump in the road and not the start of a slide.
