English-Ghanaian defender Ivan Agyaakwah set the tone in USL League One, netting inside four minutes for Greenville Triumph SC in a wild 4-3 contest with Spokane Velocity FC. It was a perfect start for the Ghanaian-heritage centre-back, who put his side in front before most fans had settled into their seats.
Greenville doubled the advantage in the 10th minute when Spokane's Nick Spielman turned the ball into his own net. Spokane hit back in the 31st minute through Ali Elmasnaouy, who cut the deficit and kept the visitors in the contest heading into the break.
Anthony Patti restored Greenville's two-goal cushion after the interval, but the game was far from over. Luis Gil converted a penalty in the 72nd minute, and Devin Boyce levelled things four minutes later with a strike that flipped the momentum. Elmasnaouy then added his second of the night in the 87th minute to settle a breathless finish.
Agyaakwah, who delivered a solid defensive shift alongside his early goal, made way for Ezra White in the 86th minute. The result leaves Greenville on 27 points, with Spokane holding sixth place in the table. Greenville Triumph SC return to action against Independence in USL League One on October 17th.
