Ghana's Black Meteors reassemble in Prampram as Desmond Ofei builds his squad for a two-legged U-23 AFCON qualifier against Libya.
Ghana's Black Meteors are heading back to camp, and the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics runs through Libya. Head coach Desmond Ofei has named a 32-man group to report on Monday, October 12, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, as the team begins preparing for the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The opening phase of camp is built around a big group that will be trimmed as the technical team sharpens its plans. Six foreign-based players are also expected to link up before the two-legged tie, which is scheduled for the November 9-17 international window. Locally based players should stay in camp until the qualifiers, although clubs can request temporary weekly releases so players can feature in domestic league fixtures.
The format is simple and the stakes are high. Ghana travel to Libya for the first leg before hosting the return in Ghana. Victory on aggregate sends the Black Meteors into the final qualifying round, where they would meet either Equatorial Guinea or Niger for a ticket to the continental finals.
Seven qualifiers will join hosts Egypt at the eight-nation U-23 AFCON finals, so there is little room for error. For Ghana, a successful campaign would keep alive the hopes of a young generation chasing a place on the big stage, and Ofei's selection is the first step in that push.
