South Africa have Australia on the ropes in Gqeberha after the tourists were bowled out for 99 and forced to follow on in the second Test.
South Africa are one day from a statement Test victory in Gqeberha, after Australia imploded for just 99 and were made to bat again in the second Test. The Proteas had already piled up more than 400, and their bowlers turned that platform into a rout.
It is the latest painful entry in Australia's catalogue of collapses against South Africa. The 47 all out in Cape Town in 2011 and the 85 all out in Hobart in 2016 now have company, and this one came after the hosts had built a huge first-innings total. The visitors were made to follow on midway through day four.
The second innings brought some resistance, but not enough to ease the pressure. Australia closed on 156 for four, still 170 runs behind, with their top order already depleted and the home side firmly in control.
Australia can still salvage a draw on the final day, but it will take a major rearguard effort from the batters left in the shed. Another failure with the bat and South Africa will wrap up one of their most commanding Test wins over their old rivals.
