Ashantigold boss Karim Zito celebrates a 1-0 win over Samartex but says his side should have scored around three.
Ghanaian tactician Abdul Karim Zito has steered FC Ashantigold back to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League, though the coach says his side left plenty of goals on the pitch.
The Miners welcomed FC Samartex to the Len Clay Sports Stadium in week six, eager to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat to Heart of Lions in their previous outing. It was far from comfortable, but a 1-0 result delivered the three points they were chasing.
Speaking after the final whistle, Zito admitted the contest played out just as he had predicted. "We knew before the game that it was going to be tough, and that's what we saw," he said. He stressed that with demanding fixtures ahead, his players cannot afford to waste opportunities and must sharpen their finishing. "I'm very okay with the result," he added.
Still, the coach was candid about what his team missed. "We should have had about three goals, but tactically I'm okay," Zito said, signalling satisfaction with the plan even if the execution in front of goal fell short.
Sunday's victory lifts Ashantigold to fifth in the league table, while Samartex remain third. With the title race still wide open, Zito's men will need more clinical edge if they want to climb higher.
