Back to Eastern Conference: Heat getting Oladipo from Rockets

Victor Oladipo is averaging 20.8 ppg this season.

The Miami Heat are acquiring Victor Oladipo in a trade with the Houston Rockets, ESPN reported Thursday afternoon.

This was one of the scenarios in which the report drops after the 3 PM ET deadline. Teams can get trade calls into the League for deals before they’re reported at the buzzer. So the Rockets find a home for Oladipo and we’ll see what type of package the Heat send in return.

The trade is Oladipo for G Avery Bradley, C Kelly Olynyk and a draft swap, per Shams Charania. Miami keeps Herro, Nunn and Robinson for now.

The Rockets were reportedly looking to move Dipo and the Heat make a big splash by adding him to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo (assuming neither was apart of the deal). It will be interesting to see what happens here. Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro or Kendrick Nunn will certainly be involved. The Heat also have young pieces in Gabe Vincent, Precious Achiuwa and JZ Okpala.

The Heat are getting another certified scorer in Oladipo that can play next to Jimmy Butler. It was the second-time this season that the veteran guard was traded. In 20 games with the Houston Rockets, Oladipo was averaging 21.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.8 assists per game. Despite those stats, the 28-year-old hasn’t shot the ball well at 40.7% from the field and 32% from three-point range.

Oladipo will now have a chance to showcase his talents to Miami’s front office brass, in hopes of signing an extension there. As for the Rockets, they did not get much back for Oladipo. Avery Bradley is a solid perimeter defender, but he has only played in 10 games this season. Olynyk is another stretch big man for the Rockets, who will likely play a ton of minutes next to Christian Wood.
