Bordeaux and Nantes play out goalless draw as Ligue 1 returns

The French Ligue 1 season has started - 167 days after the 2019-20 campaign was curtailed - with an uninspiring 0-0 draw.

The 2020-21 Ligue season 1 officially returned on Friday, August 21, 2020, as Bordeaux shared the spoils with Nantes.

The French league was not completed last season, with the COVID-19 pandemic leading to an annulment.

Paris Saint-Germain were eventually declared champions while the league table was kept in deciding the country’s European reps.

Exactly 167 days after 2019-20 season was annulled, the Ligue 1 returned with a 0-0 draw game between Bordeaux and Nantes.

Played in an empty stadium, both teams struggled to create chances as the lack of match fitness showed.

The hosts had Mehdi Zerkane shown a red card in the 20th minute, but held on to secure a draw, in a game which saw just one shot on target.

Originally, Marseille and Saint-Etienne were supposed to open the season, but the game was postponed after Marseille confirmed four COVID-19 infections.

The French league has already announced that there is likely to be a postponement there are more than three positive cases at a club.
