CAF Super Cup between Ahly-RS Berkane to be played in Qatar in 2021

The CAF Super Cup game between Egypt’s Al Ahly and Moroccan side RS Berkane is set to be played in 2021 in Qatar.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had previously announced that the CAF Super Cup would be moved from Doha to Cairo.

“Faced with the difficulty of finding an agreement with the Qatari Football Federation for the organisation of the 2019/2020 Super Cup, Al-Ahly Vs. RS Berkane, the executive committee decided that the total CAF Super Cup will take place in the first half of 2021,” read a statement on the CAF official website on Thursday.

Ahly won the Champions League after defeating arch-rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final last month, while RS Berkane won the Confederation Cup at the expense of Egyptian team Pyramids FC.

Qatar signed an agreement to host the African Super Cup in the years 2018, 2019, and 2020. The past two editions were held in Doha, with Raja Casablanca of Morocco and Zamalek winning the trophies respectively.

However, the African governing football body had announced earlier in November that the Super Cup would take place in Egypt instead of Qatar, but it was reported that the Moroccan team refused that the game be held in Cairo, asking for a neutral venue for the game.

The statement stressed that the game will be played in the first half of the next year without picking a specific date.

Ahly have a record of six Super Cup wins.
