Ghana, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire record wins in Nations’ Cup qualifiers

African heavyweights Ghana, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire cemented their place on the top of their groups in the 2022 Nations Cup qualifiers after claiming easy wins on Thursday.

Ghana maintained their perfect run after defeating Sudan 2-0 at home thanks to Andre Ayew double.

The Ghana skipper who enjoyed a record equaling 91st cap with two brilliant goals, helped his side top the group with the maximum of nine points.

Sudan, who are third, will host the Black Stars on Sunday.

In Group F Cameroon outclassed Mozambique 4-1 at home to go to the top with seven points.

Besiktas striker Vincent Aboubakar scored two first half goals for the five-time African champions while Zambo Anguissa and Clinton N’Jie completed the rout after the break.

Kama Kamo scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 74th minute of the game.

In the same group, Cape Verde were held to a goalless draw at home by Mozambique.

In Group K Cote d’Ivoire claimed a 2-1 win at home over Madagascar to go to the top with six points.

Veteran winger Gervinho opened the scoring for the Elephants three minutes after the break while Sebastien Haller doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Pauline Voavy who plays for the Egyptian side Maqassa scored the only goal for his side on the hour-mark.

Meanwhile Congo (Group I) and Zambia (Group H) claimed two important wins that could help them in their battle to clinch one of the two qualifying tickets in their groups.

Congo defeated eSwatini 2-0 while Zambia claimed a narrow 2-1 win over Botswana.

Earlier during the day Uganda defeated South Sudan with 1-0 in Group B.
