Ghana’s Majeed Waris Pulls Surprising Winner in French League 1 as a Substitute

Ghanaian striker, Majeed Waris came from the bench to score the only goal for his new team, Strasbourg, in a match which ended 1 – 0 against Toulouse in the French Ligue 1 on Wednesday, February, 5, 2020.

Majeed who has being playing for the senior National team, the Black Stars of Ghana, came unto the field on 73 minutes of play time to break the deadlock and separated the two sides with his first goal for Strasbourg, two minutes later.

The six-months loaned striker from Portuguese giants FC Porto gleefully smashed the ball in the net of their opponent, Toulouse, from a close range when his team mate, Adrien Thomasson gave him a pass on the 76th minute.

The team’s celebration was truncated for a while, as the referee signaled to check the legality of the goal before consulting the the Video Assistance Review (VAR).

After the VRA review, referee Karim Abed signaled that the goal stands to give Thierry Laurey’s side the win and three points which saw them move to 9th position on the League 1 table, having amassed 33 points in 23 matches.

Waris took to tweeter to express his joy for scoring his first goal for Strasbourg.
