Ime Udoka, the first Nigerian Basketball coach in NBA history

The rising presence of Nigerians in the NBA continues to grow season by season. Earlier this week, it was announced that Ime Udoka will coach Boston Celtics in the next NBA season.

The NBA currently features many players of Nigerian descent. However, in NBA history, there has never been Nigerian coach.  Ime Udoka is set to change this narrative.

A former player with Nigeria’s, Udoka is stepping into his first position will be the 18th head coach of Celtics after nine years as an assistant.

Though born and raised in the United States, Udoka’s late father was born in Nigeria, which qualified Udoka for Nigerian citizenship.
