On Thursday, April 1 former Celtic star player and coach Bill Russell announced his return to the NBA on Twitter.
It was unclear whether the announcement was tied to the Celtics’ up-and-down play this season, but the Hall of Fame big man could be seen in the gym working out, seemingly in preparation for the grueling work of getting into game shape in a league that has change considerably since his retirement. Russell was not available for comment regarding whether he was planning to play for Boston, or if it was another squad which had reached out to the 11-time champion.
Last week a team reached out looking for an out of work 6’9 now 6’5, over the hill, Greatest defender in @NBA history to fill a spot. “Last week a team reached out,” noted Russell on Twitter, to the “greatest defender in NBA history,” referring of course to himself, not Draymond Green.
He also said, “April Fools”.
