Man City, Lyon advance to Champions League quarter finals

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus seized on defensive mistakes to lead Manchester City to a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Friday, reaching the quarterfinals with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

After knocking out the record 13-time European champion, City’s mission to win the continent’s elite competition for the first time will continue against Lyon on Aug. 15 as part of UEFA’s unique, pandemic-enforced last eight tournament in Lisbon.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice but could not prevent Juventus from going out of the Champions League despite a 2-1 victory over Lyon in its rearranged second-leg match on Friday.

The French team progressed to the quarterfinals on away goals after a 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Memphis Depay scored an early penalty but also conceded one at the end of the first half, which was converted by Ronaldo. The Juventus forward also netted in the second period and came close to completing another hat trick in the competition
