Manchester City sign Burkinabe teenager Issa Kabore

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Mechelen right-back Issa Kabore for a year-deal.

The 19-year-old played five times for Mechelen in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League last season, and impressed enough to persuade City to add him to their ranks.

Kabore, from Burkina Faso, will however remain at Mechelen for the 2020/21 season.

The Citizens announced the signing of right-back Issa Kabore on their official website on Thursday afternoon.

“The 19-year-old, who plays as a right-back, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal but will remain at Mechelen on loan for the duration of the 2020/21 season,” a statement on City’s official website read.

“Born in Burkina Faso, he played five matches in Belgium’s top flight last term.

“Everyone at City would like to extend a warm welcome to Issa and we all wish him well during his time at the club.”

Kabore is Pep Guardiola’s second signing ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, with Brazilian right-back Yan Couto’s transfer to the Etihad having been confirmed in March.

While both of these players are not immediate improvements for the Citizens’ starting XI, Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake are also expected to be announced as new City acquisitions soon.
