Manchester City have suffered an injury setback ahead of the derby against Manchester United, with Egypt international Omar Marmoush ruled out.
The forward sustained a knee injury while on international duty and will miss Sunday’s clash against the Red Devils at the Etihad Stadium.
The 26-year-old was forced off just nine minutes into Egypt’s goalless 2026 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday. After a heavy challenge in the fourth minute, Marmoush tried to play on following treatment but was eventually replaced by Osama Faisal.
City confirmed that scans carried out by Egypt’s medical team indicated the striker would not be available for the weekend fixture. He is expected to return to Manchester for further assessment and to begin his rehabilitation programme.
