Micheal Essien Narrates How he Left Chelsea for Madrid.

Formal Ghana International, Michael Essien has broken silence on his moves from London to Madrid. The 38 year old said,

“I was with Chelsea in Monaco for the Super Cup match and a strange number called me,” Essien began. “I didn’t want to answer it but my cousin, who was in the room with me that day, told me to pick it up.

“The number kept calling so I picked up. As soon as I said hello and another hello came from the other end, I realised who was on the phone so I told my cousin, ‘it’s Jose Mourinho’.

“We started talking and he said ‘I hear you’re on your way to Arsenal’ but I told him it wasn’t true. I had not heard anything from Arsenal. Essian said on Instagram live with Carol Tshabalala

Essien who was an integral part of the squad that won the Champions league said, the coach refused to use him after he recovered from injuring and kept benching him. He was not happy in Chelsea and wanted a playing time.

Essien re-united with Mourinho spent a chunk of the season playing as a right back. He helped the club to finish second in the La Liga plus a final appearance in the Copa Del Rey.During his one year stay, real Madrid also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions league .

Ghanaian international said he went to Madrid with his pair of jeans and shirt, boots, shin pads and his Chelsea tracksuit. The Ghanaian footballer now plays for Sabail in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
