Sadio Mane fires Senegal to Nations Cup in Cameroon

Senegal became the first country to secure its place in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that will take place in Cameroon after claiming a 1-0 away win over Guinea Bissau on Sunday.

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane scored the winner eight minutes from time, giving Senegal a Nations Cup berth with two games to spare in the qualifiers.

Senegal top their group with maximum 12 points, six ahead of second-placed Congo, who will face eSwatini on Monday.

Guinea Bissau lie third with three points while eSwatini are fourth without a single point.

The first two teams in each group will reach the Nations Cup, which will take place in January 2022.

In Group A, Guinea snatched a 1-1 draw away to Chad to move top with eight points, one ahead of Mali before the latter’s visit to Namibia (three points) on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Burundi defeated Mauritania 3-1 at home in Group E to keep their hopes alive in the qualifiers.
