Shannon Sharpe makes U-turn on Drew Brees after NFL star’s apology

Days after critising Drew Brees over his comments regarding those who kneel when the national anthem is playing, Shannon Sharpe says he has sorted out issues with the NFL star.

Sharpe previously called out Brees for his comments, insisting he will never respect such a “defiant” person.

Speaking on his FS1show “Undisputed”, Sharpe said Brees must walk away from pro football for condemning players who kneel during the anthem.

“It wasn’t what he said, it was how he said it. He was defiant. I will never respect the man,” he said on his show.

However, the TV presenter has now made a U-turn after the quarterback called him to apologise.

Sharpe said Brees admitted that he messed up and has since vowed to educate himself and redeem himself.

Brees came under scrutiny when he said kneeling for the national anthem is disrespectful and he would never support such an act

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country,” he told Yahoo in an interview last week.

“Let me just tell you what I see or feel when the national anthem is played and I look at the flag of the United States.

“I envision my two grandfathers who fought for this country during World War II – one in the Army, one in the Marine Corps – both risking their lives to protect our country and to try to make our country and this world a better place.

“So, every time I stand with my hand over my heart, looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about.”
