Team Nigeria Makes History at World Relays with Record-Breaking Performance

The Nigerian mixed 4x400m team has made the country proud with a phenomenal performance at the World Relays held in the Bahamas from May 4-5, 2024. The team achieved a historic feat, setting the fastest time ever recorded by an African nation with an impressive 3:12.87. This remarkable performance not only broke their own African Record but also secured a National Record.

The previous record stood at 3:13.26, set by a different quartet at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. The team’s achievement is a testament to the quality and depth of Nigerian sprinting. The quartet, comprising Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Chidi Okezie, and Esther Elo Joseph, finished 4th in the World Relays final, showcasing their exceptional talent and teamwork.

This achievement is even more remarkable considering the team had already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics the previous day. Their performance at the World Relays further solidified Nigeria’s standing in the event, boasting the best four times ever recorded by an African nation.
