Team Nigeria’s women’s basketball squad, D’Tigress, ended their Paris 2024 Olympics campaign with a gallant quarter-final loss to the US women’s team, 88-74.
The US extended their Olympic winning streak to 59 games, dating back to 1996. They’ll face Australia in the semifinals on Friday, pursuing their eighth straight gold medal.
In their previous meeting, the US dominated D’Tigress 100-46. However, the African champions kept Wednesday’s game closer, trailing 31-27 early in the second quarter.
A’ja Wilson led the US with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Young added 15 points and three rebounds, while Breanna Stewart contributed 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
The US outperformed Nigeria in field-goal percentage (54-41), rebounds (44-28), and assists (31). Despite the loss, D’Tigress showed significant improvement and promise for future competitions.
