CAF launches Women’s Champions League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a first-ever Women’s Champions League on the continent.

This was announced on Tuesday, following a meeting by the Executive Committee of the football body.

The CAF Women’s Champions League will kickstart next year and is expected to provide a platform for the continent’s finest female footballers.

Meanwhile, the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, which was scheduled for later this year, has been cancelled.

CAF also took the decision to postpone the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to challenging conditions, the 2020 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been cancelled,” a statement from CAF said.

“Meanwhile, the Caf Women’s Champions League will be launched in 2021. The format and other details will be communicated in due course,” it added.
