Emmanuel Adebayor quits Olimpia club over COVID-19 fear

Former Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Tottenham strike Emmanuel Adebayor has terminated his contract with South America club, Olimpia over the fear of deadly pandemic disease, Covide 19.

Adebayor joined the Paraguayan club this season as a free agent after his contract with Turkish sides Kayserispor comes to an end before joining Olimpia.

The 36-year-old striker made just four appearances for the South Americans before returning to his native Togo following the coronavirus outbreak.

The club said in a statement: “The contract with the Togolese player Emmanuel Adebayor has been canceled by mutual consent.

“This situation has come about because of the difficulties the player would have in returning to Paraguay.

“He would need to take multiple flights, and they could place his health at risk.

“We thank Emmanuel Adebayor for his professionalism, and we wish him success in the future.”

The Togolese international could hang his boot after playing for Clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace all in English premier league as well as French side Metz, Monégasque team Monaco, Spanish team Real Madrid, and Turkish clubs İstanbul Başakşehir and Kayserispor.

He was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2008 while playing at Arsenal.
