Canelo Alvarez foresees win if he faces Mayweather in rematch

WBA super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez believes he could beat Floyd Mayweather in a rematch.

The Mexican boxer lost to Mayweather on points in 2013, having managed to travel the full length of the bout.

Alvarez, however, boasts a formidable record with 53 wins in 56 professional fights in his career.

And the 30-year-old believes he could end Mayweather’s unbeaten record should they clash for the second time.

“It’s different now. I’m [a] different fighter. I think he’s good too but I’m a different fighter now. Maybe [it would be a] different fight,” he said, as quoted by Sportbible.

Canelo became a four-weight world champion after his impressive victory Sergey Kovalev last November.

His list of casualties also include wins against Kovalev, Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan.

In March, when Mayweather was asked if he thought he fought Canelo when he wasn’t at his peak, the American said: “When I was 21 and I fight a guy who’s 30, you know what they say?” he asked in London’s York Hall. “He was over the hill; Floyd beats fighters who are over the hill.

“Now if I’m 36 and Canelo is 23 – I’m more than 10 years older than him, and you’re better when you’re younger.

“But when I beat someone younger, then guess what? It [the story] becomes: I got too much experience. OK. How about the guys I beat who are my age?”
